SCOTTISH MINING MUSEUM RECEIVES EVENTS & MARKETING GRANT
16/06/2010The Scottish Mining Museum has received a grant of £15, 000 from Museums Galleries Scotland to help boost their current marketing andevents programme.
A number of fun and educational family events have been introduced for the 2010/11 year and the grant will help to develop and promote these events, aiming to reach new audiences throughout central Scotland and beyond.
The summer programme kicks off with a Victorian Weekend on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 July, when visitors will have the opportunity to discover what life was like for those who lived and worked in the coal mining communities during Victorian times. Visitors will be able to enjoy guided tours around the museum with Victorian coal sorter, Aggie McGhee, and have the chance to dress up and handle objects from the collection. There will also be Punch and Judy Shows, a Flea Circus, traditional Victorian games, crafts and a hog roast. It promises to be a superb day out for the whole family.
Another exciting event taking place at the museum this summer is a Family Fun Day on Sunday August 29. The Fun Day has something for everyone with arts and craft stalls, miniature railway exhibitions, pony rides, bouncy castles, puppet shows, face painting and musical performances running throughout the day.

The Scottish Mining Museum was one of 12 museums and galleries benefiting from grants recently announced by Museums Galleries Scotland A share of funds amounting to almost £250,000 has split between 12 museums and galleries across Scotland.
