Cory Lavasseur, a senior year student at the University of Wisconsin in the United States has just completed an internship at the Scottish Mining Museum in Newtongrange. Cory, who is majoring in Business Administration with Finance and Marketing, has been based in Dalkeith House as part of the Wisconsin in Scotland programme and joined the museum’s Marketing Officer, Gillian Rankin for a 3 month period.
Cory’s work included researching mining communities and Scottish settlements throughout the world, which will be invaluable for marketing the Museum’s Homecoming Scotland events programme in the months ahead. Cory has also undertaken face to face visitor surveys and questionnaires on behalf of the museum, resulting in a wealth of vital information which will enable the museum to develop its marketing strategy and visitor experience over the coming months. He has built excellent relationships with the staff at the museum and has gained a great deal of experience on how the museum runs.
Rhona Brankin commented “The links between Midlothian and the University of Wisconsin are longstanding. Cory is an excellent example of how a student can use work experience to benefit the community. We are delighted to be able to thank him for the invaluable work he has done for the Museum.”
